Title: New To Crystal, Question On Tables/views
Description: Question on Lawson tables and user views

I am just getting started using Crystal Reports XI.
I am using ODBC to connect to my Lawson/Oracle database.

I have 2 questions as I get started:

1. I created an Oracle View within my Lawson database, however when I go to Crystal and start the Standard Report Creation Wizzard, I go through the ODBC connection screen and connect to the Lawson database. I then see all the various schemas that I have. I drill down on my desired schema but I never see my View.

Is there something special that I need to do in order for my new View to be available to Crystal?

2. Also when I drill down on the schema, I only see a partial list of the tables in that schema, is there a limit on the number of tables that Crystal will display? It stops listing them with PARTICIPNT table.

Thanks in advance for your help.

For performance reasons, I recommend using "Oracle Server" (native driver) instead of ODBC when creating your connection...

1) After logging in, right-click on the database name in the database export and select "Options". This will allow you to select/deselect which database objects you want to be visible to you when choosing a data source.

Funny you should ask this, I just reviewed this with a client asking a similar question only there was a third option, Oracle Provider for OLE (http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/windows/ole_db/index.html). I wasnt too sure myself aso I did some research and found this blog from someone that did a benchmark on the 4 most common. In his tests Oracle Provider for OLE DB was the clear winner, with Oracle Native 9.2 the slowest. Now, granted this was done in 2004 so things may have changed.

"From my own testing, it is clear that Oracle provider for OLE DB is the best driver to use when transforming data from Oracle to SQL Server using DTS"

...and...

"In a real production system, the overall speed should be better than this, as my SQL Server system is based on a PC."

Not much of a benchmark for this scenario!
