Title: Okay, That's It!

lawson - December 15, 2006 05:01 PM (GMT)
Over the past few months there has been a growing amount of SPAM being posted to this site. We've done our best to remove it in a timely fashion but it keeps growing. Up to today, the spammer has been more or less considerate and only posted in the general forum.
Well today he/she crossed a line that made things that much more annoying to deal with by posting in another category.

Unfortunately this means that we have to change our policies. From now on e-mail verification will not be enough to post a message to this site. New users will have to be approved by an administrator prior to posting. This doesn't mean much to those of you who already have an account and are enjoying the site, but it makes it more difficult to grow our member base, which is what we hope to do.

In the meantime, if you see any new SPAM please report it by clicking the REPORT button, and avoid replying to the posts or clicking on the links.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your membership.

Thank you for the change. Sometimes I go on to LawsonTalk from home. Some of the spam was, shall we say, not family-rated.

From the changing nature of the spam, it looks like one spammer sold another spammer the address here. If you hadn't stopped it now, in a few short weeks this forum would have been inundated.

Agreed on the approval process. if it becomes to much of a burdon, some of the other members could be made admins to help the approval process be more effecient.

I assume you've been revoking the spammers account each time??

I applaud your move and I don't think you'll get much kickback from new users. Just knowing that they are using a service that controls spam will make them understand the mild inconvenience of waiting for a posting opportunity.

Yes the spammers account has been revoked each time, but this guy is very persistent and obviously someone we all know. It's obvious it's always the same person that comes back and takes a few minutes each day to make our lives a little more interesting. I have even blocked his IP address each time but he seems to find a way to get around that as well. You know what they say, if you can build it they can break it.

I think we now have enough members to have lively discussions about Lawson topics. Obviously we'd love to grow bigger but the pace is not as important now as it was when we first started this thing.

We also have some new and exciting things coming up that we'll let you know about soon enough. Some of you already know about them and we thank you for your contributions.

In the coming weeks we'll probably ask for a few people to act as moderators and look over this forum. It will basically entail removing inappropriate messages and moving some misplaced ones around. If any of you have any interest in becoming a moderator please let us know by sending an email to lawsontalk at gmail.com . We ask that you've been a member for at least 4 months and that you have at least 20 posts as of this post.

Thanks again for all your support.

Thank you for maintaining the site so well.
The persistent ick should consider spending his time as you do.
