Hi all, just curious to see what your thoughts are with hardware platforms moving towards Landmark.... OS support from LSF to Landmark changes dramatically. We will need to get new hardware soon (currently HPUX 11.11) and I'm wondering if we should move to IBM. Also, any thoughts on running Lawson on a virtual server... sure would take the platform out of the picture!
Regards,
Diane
Two methods of moving to IBM you may not want to do:
- IBM's midrange (the former AS-400) where that world runs on RPG and EBCDIC -- if you don't know what I mean, you have a shock coming
- IBM hardware running Windows. That's what we do, but we have paid the price for going with the Windows operating system. As in, frequent updates; fidgety configuration; rickety web stack that sometimes feels like it's a house of cards -- in other words, the usual Microsoft nonsense.
Good luck!
The third IBM option is indeed the best. AIX is a VERY stable and extensible platform. Most (like 90%) of the clients I've worked with in the last few years are running AIX systems (I don't do Windows).
Of course I have my favorite Unix variants. And as much as I love HP-UX, I'm finding AIX to have some real advantages. It's just easier to admin.
g'luck!
