Title: Form Tab Security On 8.0.3
jpasia - November 17, 2006 09:52 PM (GMT)
Has anyone done any program code modification to remove an unwanted form tab? If so, can you please advise/share? I am looking for a more efficient way than doing this in laua. Thanks in advance.

I've done it using Design Studio

It can be done by modifying the .scr (screen file) but only if your users will access the screen via LID. Then it becomes an unsupported customization, which must be repeated every time the program is updated.
Not a bad solution really, at least as far as I'm concerned, since I have not yet delved into Design Studio, and we use LID here a lot. (Plus, we developed the Lawson Change Control system to track source code customizations, so tracking such changes is easier.)
That being said, Karen's suggestion to use Design Studio is, I'm sure, easier, faster, and in the long run, easier to support.

Milo, curious...is that "Lawson Change Control system" something you guys developed as a "Lawson mod"?
Milo - November 23, 2006 08:13 PM (GMT)
No, the Lawson Change Control system is a manual system to track all customizations to the base levels of Lawson -- the ones affected by CTP's, MSP's, and Upgrades. (It doesn't address the higher-level web layers.) I suppose parts of it could be automated, but it really depends upon careful record-keeping.
Glad you asked -- today it's finally done, after over 2 years of development and use. If you want a copy, email me at my private email, milotsukroff @ vh.net. Sorry, I can't send it from work; our outgoing virus filter strips zip files out of outgoing messages.

Thanks....I will email you today.

Karen,
Our technical team has asked Lawson if removing tabs for specific users could be accomplished in Design Studio. Lawson said that “There is no way to control tab access for specific users in Design Studio.”
Were you able to remove a form tab for a specific security class using Design Studio? If so, please advise.
Thank you.
Joanne

Joanne, I'm afraid Lawson may have given you incorrect info :beat: We used Design studio to "hide" a tab on PR13 for our portal users. I wonder if Lawson was thinking LID? If you need specifics, I can obtain that for you - our admin says it's extremely easy. Good luck!

How can you make it so that one security class has all the form tabss and another class has the some form tabs hidden? What can be the consquence of making a copy of a form where one has all the tabs and the other does not. Each form gets assigned to the appropriate class. Thanks.
