Title: Winfax Pro Alternative?

bearrtf - November 3, 2006 08:05 PM (GMT)
Looking at any alternatives to WinFax Pro with Fax Integrator. WFPro v10 isn't really supported by Symantec and Fax Integrator isn't certified with any other product which leaves us in a bit of a bind.

We're looking at a product by Esker www.esker.com as a pooled-fax application. Has anyone built an interface between Lawson (fax integrator) and another supported fax application using API's or otherwise?

Thank you in advance,

According to Lawson the solution they have for all the problems with WinFaxPro is to use Windows Faxing Service which should be a part of the WinOS(2k3 or XP). Although there is no documentation yet on their support site I have heard that they are planning a May 07 release of new Fax Integrator that can use this service

Do you know if 9.0 is a requirement to utilize this functionality? <_<

I don't have any information on the new setup so I cannot say whether 9.0 would need to be a requirment. I would hope that it would not be since Lawson knows the problems that have occured with WinFaxPro across it's installed base.

It's true, the new, NEW Fax Integrator no longer requires Symantec's WinFax. This is a relief. But there are some things to be prepared for...it is a larger departure than just dump WinFax.

You can use Fax Integrator 9.0.0.1 on an 8.0.x box (we just started to roll them out in production). It is probably a LITTLE premature, in the sense that the product is still maturingm, but it coincided with a planned upgrade of hardware anyway, so we went with it. In their defense, the Lawson folks I have been working with have been very, very responsive.

Another major change is that rather than using MS Access to house the parameters, options and historical fax data, this now resides in MS SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition. There are probably a number of justifications for this move, but it is problematic for us because I know very little about SQL, so changes and updates require manual data entry. We are working on getting the SQL database to synchronize to an Access database. If anyone is interested, I'll let you know how that goes.

Last thing for the moment is that the feedback loop that updates the status of the PO in Lawson isn't working for us. We are still working on this issue. It could be portal related, it could be IOS issue, it could be that I can't figure out the settings. It wouldn't be the first time.

Enjoy,
