From the thread...

Environment 8.0.3 -- I thought that GEN wasn't in SQL until Version 9.
How are you keeping GEN in SQL? What database?

What a coincidence? We were discussing about reorging GEN into third party DB with 8.0.3 tech. I said it was not possible, while my collegue said it can be done.

Is this possible? I now think its possible, but have to give a try. Anybody out there done this before? Please help. Thanks!

It is not possible due to the fact that some information regarding the 3rd party database is stored in GEN.

As noted it was a mistake in the linked thread as they were referencing LOGAN, and not GEN.

Nope... Can't do it.. Well... you CAN do it, but Lawson won't run... Much of the environment pre-9.0 was written to directly access the ISAM files where GEN resides. They don't use ladb to direct the queries for performance reasons - plus there is no Capital GEN file anywhere to tell the system where GEN is....

Now if you'd like to CLONE GEN into a SQL DB for research or experimentation, feel free, but you'll have to leave the lafile version for your system to use.
