Anyone willing to share how lengthy of a project their 803 to 9 upgrade was - and any really bad gotchas? I'm trying to help someone determine what to plan for...the apps are already on 8.1, so it's not a complete upgrade from soup to nuts....I've heard some "horror rumors" of early projects being 12-18 months, but I think that included apps - I can't imagine that it would take quote that long...
WHAT!?!?!? 12-18 MONTHS!?
If your client is already on 8.1 and all they're doing is a Environment upgrade then it really shouldn't take more than a couple of months. OF COURSE there are other factors to be considered but bottom line is, it's an environment upgrade. As I said in the other post, just make sure you get the right guys (Lawson installer) to do the install and don't try to cut cost there. Oh and make sure you have a good test plan for the install so it gets done correctly from the start.
Tan's exactly right. The 803 -> 9.0 Env upgrade usually means swapping out the old tech (apache/tomcat) for the new (HTTPServer/WebSphere) and figuring out how LDAP works, followed by whether you want to bind it to AD - so the data conversion doesn't really take that long, but getting the local admins up to speed is the time consuming part of the project.
TEST, TEST, TEST and then TEST - but intersperse that with TRAIN, TRAIN, TRAIN and TRAIN some more..
