Title: Garnishment Pr26
Description: State Minimum Wage

Patti Aune - August 30, 2006 02:29 PM (GMT)
Hello,

I need to use our state minimum wage on some 70 day orders that are coming in but I don't see anywhere in Lawson the ability to override the Federal minimum wage calculation. The PR25.2 rate field states that is uses the Fed Min wage and I don't see an override option on the formula tab in PR26. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Min Wage button on the PR06 should do it.

I should have mentioned I tried the Min Wage button on the PR06. I put the new rate for Minnesota tax authority and it didn't work, the problem with Lawson seems to be that it uses the Federal Min wage. I need to know how to tell the system to ignor the fed min and use the state.

Thanks

Hi Patty - will the end result of the calculation that you're using for the MN garnishment benefit the employee? If so, you may just need to use a different calculation on PR26. However, if the amount withheld is greater than what it would be using the federal amount, that's the route that you would need to follow anyway. Good luck!

Yes but how do I set that up? I need the system to use the State min wage first, this calculation might very well benefit the employee but how do I get the system to do it? I'm not having any luck with the things I've tried so far with the PR26, PR25.2, PR05, PR06. :banghead:

Thanks again to anyone who can help.

Patti - if you would like to blank out names, please feel free to fax paperwork to me, and I'll compare my suggested rule to what you're trying to enter. Fax is 202-226-8476. I worked for many years in both payroll and as a consultant for Lawson, so I've had some fun with garnishments over the years! :rau:

Thank you Stephanie....I'll fax that in the morning. :disco:

Hi Patty - I was able to get the numbers you expected - I set up a garnishment rule for MN using formula 11, and entered 492.00 into all the factors (I assume you're bi-weekly?) but did NOT enter a rate in the rate field. That gave me the appropriate exempt wages. Let me know if you need additional detail. :rau:

Thank you SAH, I was able to set-up a new rule with your suggestions. I ran into one issue with the Second Family, Yes and Second Family, No fields using formula 11 the system wanted percentages. I just put a .01 in both fields and it seems to work. Do you foresee that causing any problems?

Once again thanks so much for your help I hope I can reciprocate one day

Happy Friday, Patti - Actually, what I entered into those fields was 75 - if you're supposed to withhold 25% of the employee wages, 75% should actually be exempt. It would probably be good to test pay the employee something even less that what you faxed to me, to make sure that the numbers work. I'd test it here, but we've already copied our production data over what I did.

Good luck :bye:
