Title: Linking Multiple Tables In Crystal 10
Description: Crystal 10 not allowing multi-links

Mil0n023 - August 11, 2006 05:21 PM (GMT)
I have a major issue whenever I try to use Crystal 10.

I use the Dbase Expert and add, say, 3 Tables from Lawson - but when I attempt to link them it freezes up?! I can build reports using only 1 table - but, when are report requests that simple!!

Anyone have this problem - or know how I can fix it?

:disco:

Has this problem existed since you first installed Crystal 10, or have you previously been able to do the multiple table linking?

Since I installed. I have never built a multi-table report in v10.

We have the Crystal Enterprise for all of our reports, and in order for me to Publish reports; I have build in 9, and save in 10
(simply [B]bold then un-bold a field), save it, verify that it is v10, and I then can publish it online. :werd:

Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling?

Yep.

I have this same problem, mostly when hitting some of the larger tables, PRTIME, any of the -DISTIB, GLTRANS, etc. or when I have a bunch of moderate sized tables. What tables are you reporting off of?

Try disabling the auto linking in Crystal, this is likely the reason for the delay. You will need to change a registry key.

WARNING: CHANGING REGISTRY SETTINGS CAN POTENTIALLY CAUSE PROBLEMS WITH YOUR OS. DONT ATTEMPT UNLESS YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH THIS. AND ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Crystal Decisions\9.0\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions

Setting "DoAutoSmartLinking" should be set to "No"

Other than this, I would suggest writing straight SQL and adding a Command instead of using the Database Expert. The Database Expert isnt really an Expert, I think it just stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Thanks. I will try this now and post back my results - except now I can't find my damn v10 Installation Disk!!

And, straight SQL writing - I agree - but, I am not as talented in this arena.

<_<

You wont need the install CD. Just make that change to the Registry and see if it lets you manually set the links.

I'd recommend using a tool like TOAD ($), Winsql (free), or SQL Developer (free) to build your sql queries. Then you can just copy/paste it into a Crystal command object. Much easier to troubleshoot (not to mention query optimization) and more efficient than builiding your sql in Crystal.

Alllriiight. Made the change to the reg and it appears to work fine.... Thanks! :thumb:
