Hello-

I'm completely new to Lawson/HRIS management, but I'm in charge of this issue anyway!

We are running Lawson 8.0.3 and currently have payroll set up to pay 2 types of staff: hourly/non-exempt and salaried/exempt; our hourly/non-exepmt staff enter hours through a Web Time Entry program tied to employee self-service.

We need to set up a new group of positions that are salaried and non-exempt. I saw in another thread that at a minimum this involves creating new positions where Salary flag = S, Exempt = N, and we tie the staff to an overtime pay plan, but I'm not sure what else is involved. (Ex. do we need to create a new/different OT pay plan for the S/NE staff, do we have to make any other changes to our payroll setup/process, can we use the same WTE interface to have staff enter work hours so that we can compute OT, etc).

Anyone willing/able to spend a bit of time with a Lawson newbie would be appreciated!

Some thoughts.

1) Set up standard time records to the Salaried/Non-exempt to give them their normal salaried rate (I am assuming that these folks only report exceptions). ie: overtime worked, vacation, sick, etc.. Since they are salaried they receive 40 hours per week unless there is an exception.

2) Set-up you off-set paycodes. So when the employee reports 8 hours of vacation (as an example) it takes 8 hours off of the standard 40. Be sure not to have the overtime paycode as an off-set.

3) You will then need to set-up the off-set Web time entry screen for these employees. This will allow them to enter only exceptions to the 40 hours.

Example:

Employee keys 8 hours vacation and 8 hours of overtime.

They are paid: 32 hours regular, 8 hours vacation and 8 hours overtime. **Note: you may want to put in some type of audit on the back end. Normally overtime is only paid for hours worked over 40. In the above example: The 8 hours the employee reported as overtime would actually be paid as reqular since they they did not actually work over 40.

4) You will probably need to set-up a new overtime pay plan. I don't have Lawson in front of me to check the parameters on the pay plan set-up to see if it requires an hourly or salaried indicator.
