jkerry - January 13, 2006 12:29 AM (GMT)
I don't really understand the difference between all this new upgrade material. :nix:
I know 8.1 is the new environment Technology
Does anyone know what this 9.0 stuff is? Is it a new version of the apps?
What else is new with all of this? Help me make sense of all this junk please! :banghead:

8.1 Technology was released in the not-to-distant past as the "Next Generation" Lawson environment. It is a marked departure from the old Lawson that we all know and love, with the requirement of LDAP for user authentication and Security - a new security model and the convergence of the old env with IOS(LOGAN) all becoming one piece.
After the release of 8.1 LBT (Lawson Backoffice Technology), Lawson became involved in an alliance with IBM and decided to standardize on IBM's Middleware (WebSphere, etc..), dropping support for Tomcat and other servlet containers. This was done for a couple reasons, not the least of which was to streamline the coding of the LBT to insure better integration with just one product and to make support easier. Constantly chasing Tomcat development has become difficult and expensive - even though Tomcat is free.
What WOULD have been LBT 8.1 ESP1 was re-branded LBT 9.0 and 8.1 was discontinued. LBT 9.0 includes patches to the 8.1 LBT and extends it with the early hooks into what will become Lawson "Landmark" development system.
Now, is that as clear as mud?

I just wanted to add that they are calling the new 9.0 technology "Lawson System Foundation" or LSF 9.0.

Does this mean apps will be in Java Script in 9.0 ?

No, LSF 9.0 will support both COBOL and Java apps, but does not imply either. Lawson will be releasing Java applications over time and those applications will be able to coexist with the current COBOL applications that you have.
Make sure that you understand that LSF 9.0, which seems to be the initial topic of this thread, has nothing to with the applications other than only supporting 8.0.3 and 9.0 applications.
9.0 applications on the other hand seems to be more of what you are asking about.

I am not sure if I am more or less confused now.
One thing is for sure, I am going to be keeping a close eye on all this stuff and watch some of you cross the bridge before I even think about it. Thanks for the info though.
