This may be too specific for any responses, but I'll try anyway!
We withhold county taxes for the various counties in MD. When we initially implemented Lawson, BSI was calculating these taxes using gross pay, not MD state taxable wages. BSI had told us that it was their interpretation of the tax law that determined which wage base was used, and that's what we communicated to our employees.
In May, we applied BSI updates 143-146, and when we ran our payroll this month, MD county taxes are now calculating on state taxable wages. The BSI updates don't reference MD, but they are all for other local tax calculations.
BSI is researching whether the updates could have impacted our calculations, but I was wondering if anyone else may have noticed a change if these same updates were applied? As an additional question, for anyone that may also do business in MD, are your counties taxing on gross or state taxable?
Many thanks in advance - Happy Friday
