Title: Use Of Supervisor Codes

We are currently on v8.0.3 using portal and was wondering how other companies are using the supervisor codes. The problems we are having here is that it doesn't stor the history of who has occupied a supervisor code anywhere so to maintain a history we have to just keep building new codes. this is going to get ugly fast. any thoughts on how others are using this field would be helpful.

The intent behind the supervisor codes is for them to be used for ESS/MSS and ProcessFlow. I agree that there needs to be some sort of history as to who held that supervisor code, but the use of the supervisor code doesn't always follow the hierarchy of the management structure due to some limitations and sometimes complex structures some companies may have, such as having multiple supervisors and managers for one employee. For us, we use it to follow path of who will be initiating PA's and the approval path it needs to follow, which may not always be the hierarchy of the company. Some managers may not need to be involved in the approval process of PA's, as it may be good enough for someone below them to start and/or approve it and then someone above to sign off on it before going to HR/PR to review and process. So, in short, the creation and setup should be based on how you are going to use it.

Tell me about it. We are having the same problem right now. At first, we were not re-using supervisor codes and created some previous supervisor user fields on the employee records to store history but that really caused havoc for our T&E system. We are currently reviewing our use of supervisor codes as well. I'll shoot you an e-mail if we come up with any kind of super inventive solution.

We simply consider the Supervisor code just that, not an individual, so we reuse by simply replacing the old with the new. Our Job Code hx is where we can see if they were ever in a Supervisory role.

our codes are designed like this

EX### is executive
DIR### is Director/Department Head
MAN### is managers and supervisors

and we use the description to id the role ie: Mgr, ICU
