I got another question in regards to an O.R. Inventory. If we do go ahead and make our O.R. a true asset inventory location how do you handle same item in different areas of inventory location. For example, surgeons gloves. each size would be in each OR suite. I thought in Lawson you could assign only one bin location per item. Any thoughts?

Just some thoughts --
1st trying to control OR supplies as inventory is a tremendous task unless the supply staff report to Procurement. They 2 areas basically have different core outcomes they strive for. I have seen it done but in most cases, poorly.
Regarding your question - the easiest way to handle this would be to smart number your locations by suite - so a JJ7880 (size 8 glove) could be located in S1a2c & S2a3b -- the S1 would indicate the suite where the item is located but what a mess to keep up with. As you know, inventory must be kept in synch with the location so every time you get something in, you would have to complete transfers on how you would like to portion it by suite.
A better solution would be to have a central OR inventory that contains the bulk of your supplies. This would be maintained within a Lawson inventory location and have your individual suites as par locations which you could scan & expense to the OR dept based upon a routine. If levels are kept low enough, this would provide you with an accurate utilization history and you can always run the par location valuation to see what each suite is carrying in $.

I would think the only way you could do that would be to use a different Bin. We have a seperate location that houses extra stock, only because our warehouse is 3 hrs. away. So we keep extra operating room supllies in a bin location called store.
