Title: File Shows As Read Only In Lx

malek - February 6, 2006 07:06 PM (GMT)
when using lx for some files we get a read-only error however the file is not in use by anyone else and has 666 or 777 perms. Any ideas why this may be happening?

The file may be in use by one of the Lawson processes. You might try a stoplaw and then access the file (as a note, stoplaw will bring Lawson down, so make sure everyone is out of the system before you perform it. Most people know, but I always have to put the disclaimer out there.)

If you don't want to perform a stoplaw, but need to edit the file, you can use vi, though its not as user friendly, it in many ways more powerful and something all unix admins/developers should learn. Vi will often allow you to edit the file even though LX thinks its readonly; especially useful for editing files used by Portal.
