Title: Removing Search Box from Portal

JC - January 12, 2006 12:49 AM (GMT)
I have been asking our admin person to remove the search box from the Portal for some of our users and he tells me that its not possible on NT. Is this true? Does anyone know how we might work around this? -Thanks

That is absolutely NOT true. There are plenty of articles on the knowledge base that address this very thing.

What you'll (or he) need to do is set up a couple of Portal Roles and assign a different XML file to each of them. I would recommend the following roles:

1) withsearchbox (withsearchbox.xml)
2) default (default.xml)

then I would remove the searchbox from default.xml and assign withsearchbox to the users that actually need it. This can all be done from the portal admin screen (when logging into Portal with an administrator account)

Hope that helps

Take a look at KB Article ID#68410. The title states it revolves around self-service, but this can be applied to anyone who wants to remove the search box.
