Title: Deduction Priority
SAH - April 1, 2008 02:24 PM (GMT)
Hope I can adequately explain this!! I have an employee that we expected 4 "other" deductions to be withheld from pay (3 pre-tax, one after tax). Two of the pre-tax have deduction priority 1, and one has priority 4. The after tax is priority 2. He had enough taxable wages to support one of the priority 1 deductions (which I understand), but I expected the priority 4 pre-tax to also come out, and it didn't, even though he had enough taxable wages for that deduction, after the second priority 1 deduction was skipped.
I then changed the priority 4 pretax deduction to a priority 1, and I believe because alphabetically this ded was last, it still didn't come out.
My question - if one deduction is skipped, will all remaining deductions of that type (pre-tax, in this instance) also be skipped? I guess I thought there was more of a "there's enough for this one, not enough for that one, enough for this one".
Clear as mud? Thanks for your thoughts

Howdy. You've probably already done this...
Check the Arrears settings on PR05 and the employee deduction.

Yup - been there, done that. It's looking like the app will skip all deductions after the first one that can't be taken. :banghead:

We believe, but can't prove, that it used to do as you'd expected - skip the one it can't take and move on to the others - and that it changed somewhere around 8.0.3 MSP2 (iSeries).

Thanks Karen - exactly what I was afraid of!

I did not know there was a MSP2 for ISeries 8.03, last we have is MSP1, when did 2 come out?

Got my versions and MSPs confused again. We are 8.0.3.4 MSP1, you are right, there is no MSP2 (as far as I know). The change occurred sometime before we moved to 8.0.3.4 MSP1, I think even before we moved to 8.0.3.4.
Anyway, sorry about the confusion.
