Title: Multiple Medical Plan Enrollments
ohthatsme - February 13, 2008 03:55 PM (GMT)
Good morning,
Our company developed a 2nd tier of medical plans which reduced the rates of medical coverage. Ees with 10 years of service or more on 1/1/08 or anytime during 2008 were eligible. The coverages are exactly the same as the 'regular' plan except that the ee's deduction for this medical plan is reduced by 10%.
The names of the plan are different, ex - HMO for the standard HMO & HMO10 for the 10yrs service plan.
What has happened is that people that are eligible for this new plan are enrolled into the new plan. However, many of these first time 10yr service ees, [who were enrolled in the standard plan in 2007] are enrolled in 2 medical plans - the standard HMO from 2007 & the HMO10. The old plan never automatically ended when they enrolled in the new 10yr plan.
Believe me they don't feel special abut having dual deductions taken out of their checks.
We have automated our benefits enrollment & ongoing admin has been outsourced but I think this issue is really an internal - specific to Lawson.
Is there a way for Lawson to prohibit enrollment in more than 1 plan code of the same plan types? I want to prevent an employee from having 2 medical plans active simultaneously
I would so appreciative, (so would the employees) and fixing this surely would add years to my life ļ
Thanks

At this time, there isn't any standard way in Lawson to prevent multiple health enrollments, unfortunately. We use an audit report for the same reason which is reviewed prior to each payroll cycle. Sorry I don't have better news!!

Lawson cannot really have a one enrollment based on plan type. For example we have 3 different Life Plans that the employee could enroll in. They are not limited to one plan.

It's almost too bad at this point that you have multiple plans set up instead of different contribution records within the same plan. It still may have taken some creative scripting for the employee group, but at least you wouldn't need to worry about multiple plans. Good luck!!

Thanks for all the feedback.
Yes - I really would not want a to have a blanket multiple plan type limitation for all PLAN TYPES. Our company too have multiple liFe ins plan codes under the EL plan type. I just wanted to see if it was out there, and if we could pick which plans we wanted to apply the PLAN TYPE rule to...
Guess not..
