Hey we are looking to see who is using certification pay with Lawson. We are looking to pay a certification differential for any RN who is a BSN or MSN. Does anyone else do this with Lawson?

Options we have thought of:

Option 1 Separate position- issue we use position control budgets and these position don't require the BSN or MSN.

Option 2 was just increase the base rate - issue difficult to track and we use a step and grade system.

Option 3 Use Alt-rate - issue will it work?

Hoping to hear your thoughts, I've heard it's an outdated practice, I'm hearing it makes since to compensate what’s important to the organization. So what’s the scoop?

We use two main methods:

1. We built this huge mod to store the data and run a batch program each pay period that writes a PR35 reocrd. I wouldn't recommend this method unless you really have very specific needs. It was costly and time consuming to build and is difficult to maintain. :banghead:

2. We also use position budgets and postion defaulting. For some positions we do not default the grade info. Instead we setup the grade as blank but make it required on the HR10. When an employee is placed in one of these position the user must make a decision as to the grade the employee should be placed on based on certification. For example, Interpreters have three levels of certification for which we have assigned three different pay grades. We still use one position, but the grade can be changed when entered. This makes reporting easy.

I wouldn't reconmmend adding it to the base salary as it will be difficult to report on and over time people will forget what's happened unless you keep very good records. I've never thought about Alt Rates but would think that would be an option. I'd be interested to hear what you come up with as I'm always looking for alternatives to our mod.

We just set up a seperate job code and positions that reflects the premium status. Then we assign the new grade to that position and let it default to the employee record. Pay is then established based on the requirements of the employee to be in that position.

We have set up different position codes for all of our employees with certification pay. We created a new grade in the step and grade tables to handle this.
