Title: How Do I Know If I'm Ready For Certification?
Description: --Yes, I'm scared ---

For those of you who have attemtpted / passed the certification exams, I need some advice.

We are on environment 8.0.3, ESP7 and Apps 8.1.0, MSP6. I've been the lead Lawson admin for my company since we went live in August 2004.

Over the past six months, I've completed the IBM Websphere 6.1 Install / Admin Course, the IBM Websphere 6.1 Performance Monitoring / Tuning Course, and the "Lawson LSF9 Admin for Migration from Env 8.0.3" course (3 days in St. Paul).

Outside of the training courses and based on my experience, I feel I know Lawson 8.0.3 admin pretty well. However, my only exposure to IBM Websphere and LSF9 has been through the training courses I've attended; I have no hands-on experience in either of these specific areas. I have no experience with LDAP either though I have completed about 6 hours of web-based training presentations on Windows Active Directory.

My understanding is that at this point, my next step is the initial Lawson LSF9 Admin exam. Once I past this exam, I am ready to attend the 5-day LSF9 migration course, at which time a second exam is required to get the full certification.

My question is in regards to the initial Admin exam. How do I know if I'm really ready? With no test questions or anything, I have no idea if I'm prepared enough to take this exam. I do not want to go into the test room blind without having some sort of assurance that I'm good to go.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Please help because my company has already spent a lot of money on my training and I desperately don't want to dissappoint them (or myself).

What's the rush? Are you a consultant, or W-2 for a Lawson client?

If you are a permanent employee of a Lawson client, then I would encourage you to get the system installed and start working your upgrade project. There will be plenty of time for certification once you are live and living the 9.0 dream. ;-)

BTW...is this the same JohnC who once lived in Raleigh?

I work for a major security firm in Kansas, never been to Raleigh.

My company may possibly send two of us through the LSF9 Certification program.

How tough are the classes and exams for the LSF9 Admin and Migration courses?

Has anyone out there taken the LSF9 certification option?
How was the experience/journey with this option?
Also, how was the experience working with Lawson remote support during the project?

THanks!

Thanks

I helped write those certification tests and I can tell you this as a certainty.. They are tough. But if you pay really close attention in class and you pass them - and a reasonable percentage do, you get access to a very different remote support team. That team contains some of the best of Lawson's technical consultants, who have traded in their air miles and hotel points for a chance to work from home and solve your problems.

You'll need to know a LOT about Lawson Administration and troubleshooting - all the 3rd party components for LSF9 and have an in-depth understanding of the operating system that you will be installing on. - And that's BEFORE you get to class!! Really successful candidates have already downloaded LSF9 and done a couple test installs - maybe more..

I wish you Good Luck!!

Can you give any indication of what type of questions to expect?
Such as: Multiple Choice, fill in the blank, Essay, etc?

Thanks for the feedback Dave.

I assume the specific migration steps/documentation that is currently internal only to lawson is available to take home with us when we finish the course...correct?

To answer both questions...

Multiple Choice - at least it was when we wrote it - but there may be multiple correct answers, from which you must chose the MOST correct.

As to the class... I don't know what handouts there are - sorry..
