Title: Fax Integrator 9.0.0.1 - Bizarre Behavior
jackofalltrades - October 12, 2007 07:16 PM (GMT)
We've just 'gone live' on the new version of Fax Integrator and I am seeing some very bizarre behavior - maybe someone has seen these things and can comment?
1. The countdown to how often the faxes are processed goes far faster than it should. '15 minutes' counts down a minute every 10 or 15 seconds or even faster.
2. Occasionally I get an extra copy of the same fax in the FAX window. One will say 'completed' and the other says 'inprogress' - like the Fax Integrator loses track of what the Fax Console is doing.
Add to that the way XP Fax Console needs the fax numbers 'fixed' to work with it and this is a royal pain - I have to baby sit the thing continuously.

I restarted the program and the countdown timer is now working properly, but only for the first time so far as I know. Every time before this the program has counted down far faster than it should.

We may have seen the timing issue you mention. But our servers are set to restart every five minutes, so it is hard to nail down. I thought that it might have been that it is actually starting every five minutes, rather than resting for five minutes.
The wierdness we are seeing is twofold: 1) we get errors stating too many sessions open and 2) FI is not deleteing faxes with the appropriate status. For the first, it has already been repoprted and I know that the developer is aware of it. I submitted the second issue late last week, but have not received an update.
None of thie affects the business processes to the point of being dibilitating, but it certainly is annoying.

After working with Lawson support they have opened a PT on this issue and expect a resolution to be tested and available Nov 15. The two major issues we see are these:
1. Countdown timer races - often ticking down a minute in five or six seconds.
2. Faxes download from the server but then the DELETE of the fax file on the server does not take place - so during the next processing cycle the fax is still there, downloads again, and processes a second time. This leads to double faxing of PO's. Occasionally a fax will remain on the server for as many as three cycles when it finally gets deleted properly.
What I have found as the only viable solution at present is to keep the Fax Integrator processing stopped most of the time. Several times a day, I:
1. Open a connection to the fax directory on the Lawson server and see what is there, noting the fax number range and time stamps.
2. I then manually kick off the fax processing.
3. After the program gets done downloading faxes I refresh the view of the fax directory. If there are no faxes in it I can assume they all downloaded and deleted properly.
4. If there are one or more faxes in the Lawson fax directory immediately after the processing cycle has finished downloading, I have to determine whether the fax(es) are new ones since the processing cycle (by checking the time stamp against the ones I noted earlier) or if there are faxes that processed but did not delete. If I see a file with a time stamp in the range of what was in the directory before the processing started, I download it to my PC and view it in WordPad to see what vendor and PO / Key it is. If it is one that is also in the Fax Integrator and Fax Console, then it should be deleted manually from the fax directory so it won't download on the next processing cycle.
5. I stop the processing cycle on the Fax Integrator so it won't download any more faxes. This way I get to check each batch to make sure if they download OK and are properly deleted. Several times a day I repeat this drill to get the faxes out without having any duplicates sent.
I look forward to Lawson fixing this!

Here's to hoping.
Not to sound too cynical, the Lawson folks were really, really responsive in the beginnig. However, my last two issues (faxes not purging at all and a "Too Many Sessions" error) were put to a level 3--which I think of as "when we get around to it." We were indirectly told to expect a patch to the "Too Many Sessions" issue in about a week, but that was the first week of October.
Crossing my fingers,

Was on a WebEx yesterday with Lawson and they said a new patch for Integrator 9.0.0.1 was put on the website 11/2/07. This patch should deal with the file not being deleted from the Fax directory
