I am most postitive that this can't be done without customizing lawson however I'll put this out there. On the PA31, we have a training issue where people are putting in the are code in the country code box. The request is to lock down this field and make is so no one can enter in there. I am pretty sure you can not but thought I would ask

I think you could use HR10 (topic E8) to either require a personnel action to change it or set the security level to 1 to lock it down.

We haven't tried it, but I might...

Can you lock down just the one box though? via security that way?

I tried it says security Levl can not be changed for this topic on the topic A3... I just tired E8 so we'll see. If not I am guessing there is no way to do it.

Since the applicant fields are not available on Personnel Actions you won't be able to flag is Personnel Action required (I just tried it). It wouldn't let me enter a security level either.

That would leave you with customization.

My assumption was that it can't do what I want to begin with
so no harm no foul

It may take me longer to type this reply than it would to implement the solution.

In Design Studio, you simply make the field output only, and set the form as the default presentation.

Ok great thanks, we don't however have design studio. I have told them in the interim- just retrain and I think that is what they will do...

:-) BUT I'll come back to it after we upgrade to 9 I am sure

If you get a vote I would get design studio. We have used it a lot to solve problems like the one you wrote about. Weve also used it to delete all the extra fields that lawson has, rename fields to match company lingo, default in information that is always the same and the list goes on.
