Title: Access A Crystal Report From Ess?

Cindy - June 21, 2007 08:08 PM (GMT)
We have a request to make Compensation Statements available via ESS. Is there a way to link a Crystal Report to a Portal screen in ESS? Has anyone tried anything like this?

We are 8.0.3, NT.

I havent tried this, but a popular option is to link ESS into Framework Services dashboard, then they can get their reports from the same location. however if this doesnt serve the business need, as long as the ESS information you want to link to has a URL it should be possible.

Can you give a more specific example of what type of info your looking for?

At a previous company we modified the logon.htm to update RD41 with current pw for the user logging in. The update was done by having logon type defined on RD41.2 that had attributes consisting of the URL to Crystal RAS, the user's ID, and an encrypted attribute that was the users AD password.

With this in place, we could setup a Portal bookmark pointing to the Crystal Server, have the user automagically authenticated because the attribute was updated on logon to the Portal, and then the would get whatever report they were supposed to have access to.

I don't know if this helps. But I'd be glad to talk to you more offline if you like. Just let me know.

Currently our Total Comp statements are created by a Crystal report - it runs for all employees. We were hoping to not reinvent the wheel, and simply change the report to print for an individual employee, and make it available within the ESS portal.

"Framework Services dashboard" is not a familiar term - so I doubt that would be an option for us here.

Never heard of the RD41 - and I am unable to access it - I get "0 hits". How do you access it?

Okay...just realized where RD41 was. Don't think I've never even seen that screen before...so we definitely have not used it. I'll have to check it out.

Are you currently publishing your reports for browser-based access? Are you running either Enterprise Reporting or Reporting Services (1.x or 9.x)? Or may be just Crystal Enterprise?

We use Crystal Enterprise yes. So what I am looking for is a way to link a report in Crystal Enterprise, to an ESS user.

Did you purchase Crystal Enterprise through Lawson? If, this should be fairly easy.

If not, I doubt youll find an out-of-box solution but it should be fairly easy to do with some custom coding.

I don't yet know the source...but why would that make a difference?

Well, the Lawson version of Crystal Enterprise would have included the OLE DB Query Builder and Provider which would allow you to write reports using dme statements thus allowing you to retain the users lawson security.

If you purchased from BO then not so much. Youd need to do some custom development to pass a users ID or Employee # to the report.
