We have decided to move to IBM/AIX for Lawson from Windows - for many reasons.
We have been told by Lawson that they will not support an OS migration and Lsf9 migration in the same weekend. They would rather do an OS migration first, make sure that is stable, then upgrade to LSF9.
My server engineers don't like that idea because it is bringing all the old 8.0.3 technology over to the brand new boxes.
Does anyone have any thoughts either way on this?
I can certainly understand Lawson's reticence to do it all at once. The differences in the platforms can certainly contribute to issues that would otherwise not arise.
It seems you have 2 choices - migrate to Unix and upgrade, or upgrade on Windows and then migrate to Unix. Personally I'd choose the first option. The 803 environment is very well established and solid on AIX with ESP 7 and doing the Windows -> Unix migration is MUCH easier on 8.X than on 9.X technologies. Also, you'll be replacing all that "old technology" as soon as you complete the 9.0 migration, so your SEs won't have to be concerned for very long.
By the way, congratulations on moving up to Unix. I think you'll find Lawson is much easier to manage on the AIX platform.
Good information.
Thank you
