Title: Iseries Conversion File Headers
Description: Upper Case with Dashes

kate - May 11, 2007 02:12 AM (GMT)
Are the conversion file headers for iSeries different from the headers used for UNIX? I vaguely remember reading about these differences:

1. For iSeries, insert Dashes into the header fields. Put the dashes to the left of each letter that is Upper Case in the UNIX header (the exception is you don't begin the header with a dash).
2. iSeries headers should be all UPPER CASE.

I've looked in the conversion process guides, in the CFLs, and in the KB but still can't confirm...was I dreaming? :banghead:

Thanks!

Kate

Hi Kate - although I haven't touched iSeries in years, I don't think you're imagining anything!! I looked through some old documentation, and the headers I used did contain dashes, and were all caps. Good luck!!

PS - using the field names instead of the UNIX headers I was used to was also the bane of my existence those first times!! :ph43r:

Stephanie,

Thank you for the research -- you are a lifesaver!

Wow, I was clueless about the Field Names (instead of abritrary headers) requirement.
So, on HR521, for the HR54 field labelled Effective Date, I'll use a header of BEGIN-DATE.

Chuckle. Guess what I'm going to be doing for the next few hours?

Thanks again.

Kate

Outcome:

Conversion programs: HR511, HR515, HR521 ~ iSeries. 8.1 apps (MSP 6).

We did not have to use special headers in our CSV input files. :disco:

For iSeries conversions in pre 8.1 apps, check out KB Article 69824.

Muchas Gracias to Stephanie and Uncle Charlie!

{FYI, HR511 did not create PRRATEHIST, so we converted employees using the MicroSoft Office Add-Ins Upload Tool.}
