I am just starting to utilize the Reporting Services part of LBI. My company currently uses Actuate to distribute reports, but wishes to convert to RS. My task is to try and duplicate what Actuate provides.
I'm hoping I can get some advice on these issues:
1. The ability to programatically change the instance name.
Actuate allows complete control over the report name. So, it is easy to name the report something user-friendly (SalesReport, not 1_22_SalesReport_SCHEDULED). It looks like the name could be altered after the report has ran, but I don't really want to do that on a wholesale level daily.
2. The ability to add a version name.
In Actuate, you can provide the name (SalesReportFY2007), and then version the report Per01, Per02, etc. This makes it very easy for the users to open historical instances.
3. The ability to overwrite prior instances of a report, with multiple schedules.
I need to be able to have a report running for the current period, while also having a version running for last period. I believe it is possible to have multiple schedules running for the same report, but I run into a problem with the instance name (see #1).
Currently, we keep multiple years worth of static reports available on the system. I will need to duplicate that in RS.
Thanks for any help.
