Title: Lsf Migration - Printers
Description: Printer migration from 8.0.3 to LSF Unix

A couple of questions regarding the printer migration experience from
8.0.3 to LSF on Unix -

Does 8.0.3 prtdef and prtgrpdef information transfer into LSF9?

How will printer group assignments work with mixed LSF9 and LAUA
security?

Any experiences with the above appreciated.

If you UPGRADE from 803 to LSF9 you'll have not a single issue with printers. The upgrade programs handle them without a problem - same for printer groups.

I think (but can't confirm this at the moment) that printer group info is all maintained in GEN, so it matters not whether you are using LAUA or LASE

Hah! "not a single issue", eh? According to our UNIX admin, big issues! It turns out that UNIX requires a Print Server to be set up on the new UNIX box(es) before you can create a UNIX printer device. The way that UNIX comes configured, it does not have a print server automatically installed and working. The setup for a new Print Server took our UNIX admin about a day - for each box. Only when the Print Servers and new UNIX printer devices were installed was I able to go in and set up the Lawson print queues.

If anyone is planning to migrate print queues in the UNIX environment, be sure to find out from your UNIX admin how long it will take to set up the Print Servers. Otherwise, at some point, you'll end up in a time crunch and you'll be running around :lala: trying to get the printers going.

That's true. But if you already had a print server and printer devices setup then it shouldn't be a problem when you upgrade. Correct?
