Title: Ibm Websphere
Description: Training Prior to LSF 9.0 Install?

theking75 - March 5, 2007 09:53 PM (GMT)
Before upgrading to LSF 9.0, I would assume a Sys Admin would want to get some training on IBM Websphere, correct? I've been searching for some training today and it seems pretty scarce. Anyone have any recommendations on how to get good Websphere training? Thanks.

It's a pain to traverse the IBM site. For WAS there two option elearning and Classroom

Tivoli elearning and Classroom

Curious to hear how much of that training you found useful (or anyone else that has had WAS or TDS training). We've attended the LSF9 Admin training and it sounded like we saw all we'd need just in that class, Tivoli too.

It isn't "required" training, Lawson is doing our install/config, GSC will help somewhat if we have issues later - and we heard that the training covers A LOT of material not related at all to Lawson. We heard we're only using a little peice of WAS. Due to timing and expense, we're considering NOT attending the IBM training for WAS (4 days) or TDS (3 days). Has anyone else forgone the training and lived to tell about it?

Yeah, we've done it w/o Websphere training, got LSF9 up, LBI too. The Lawson installer[s] came in from India and bang-boom-done they were up and running.

Then the problem occurred that we needed to update from LSF9 ESP2 to ESP4. Also needed to upgrade LBI from 9.0.1.10 to 9.0.2.2. That brought in the problem that WebSphere has to go from 6.0.x to 6.1. Basically it's a reinstall of WebSphere. Now we need to know what we're doing with WebSphere.

So intead of hiring Lawson to come in and do the upgrade, we hired a trainer to come in and help us, by teaching us the parts of WebSphere that Lawson uses -- and some of the theory needed to understand "why". We didn't go with IBM - too focused on WebSphere & no knowledge of Lawson. The training was essential. Can't tell you how it went because we haven't really started yet. (Email me at mtsukroff at edisonschools dot com if you want further info about the training.)

Thanks, Milo. Our installer is in there now doing his thing. We're starting off with WAS 6.1. We're already signed up for WAS and TDS training but started to hear we didn't REALLY need it. Decided today that we're going anyway. Better to have training that covers more than you need instead of having no training at all. Good luck to you.
