Title: Daylight Savings Time
schroncd - March 1, 2007 08:17 PM (GMT)
9 days 19 hours till the time change...
No doubt most of you received a reminder email from Lawson today that there are vendor patches that HAVE to be applied to your systems to make them compliant with the new DST setup.
http://www.dstpatch.com is a page that shows a huge number of vendor patches that may affect your non-Lawson systems. Worth a few seconds to check it out

That is an excellent link!! Sun Java is on there, but I think that is one that can get easily overlooked. We have many, many custom web applications besides our normal vendor supported apps. A lot of time has been spent making sure that all of our custom apps are using the most current JRE version. One of the downfalls of having too many custom apps... :lala:

Just a reminder to also be very leary of any meeting scheduling software you may use during the next few weeks. If an unpatched PC schedules a meeting in Outlook, it's highly probable that everyone else will see it as the wrong time.
Don't forget you PDAs and Blackberries - they need lovin' too...

We are trying to determine what, if anything, we need to apply for JAVA. Our network guys handle the Microsoft server patches, but they don't do JAVA patches. If Lawson doesn't tell you what to apply, then how do we know what we need??

Yes and I appreciate the postings...but we have looked at the links both here and in the email, and we still are unable to determine what the heck we need to do.
The link that you posted here indicates that it is for this:
Solaris 9 Operating System, Solaris 10 Operating System, Solaris 8 Operating System
I don't know anything about Solaris...we are on Windows here. Sorry if this is sounding incredibly dense, but we simply have not been responsible for this type of maintenance before, and now it is dumped in our laps. :nix:
I guess we will do an LIS with Lawson and find out more. Thanks.

I thought I would add a follow-up. I spent about an hour with a Lawson support person at the conference, trying to find a link to a Windows version of the java patch that Lawson thought we needed. But no luck - believe it or not, she could NOT find a working link. THe day I was bac, Friday, I opened an LIS and had no success there either...they told me what version I needed, but could not tell me where to find it. I ended up staying late that night with a network 'guru' digging through the sun.java.com site, and eventually found that the version on java we were on was no longer supported by Sun. We had to upgrade to a completely new version level. A very frustrating experience to say the least, mainly because this sort of thing is WAY out of my box. :banghead: Just glad it is over!!!

Congratulations Cindy!! Nothing like a "Trial by Fire" to make you appreciate what you do..

Truthfully I'm not "feeling the love"...no desire to get sucked into this area of Lawson. We'll see what happens next time something like this rolls around.
As for DST java, turns out we upgraded to a version that Lawson has not certified compliance on (1.6) and the only reason we found that out was our former sys admin poked around and discovered what a mess we made. In the end, we uninstalled the new version, and are now on the original 1.3.1_11 that we had. We spent all day yesterday TRYING to download the correct patch (1.3.1_20) which is buried on the Sun site in the archives area!!!! We had at least 5 different techs try to download it all failed. Today someone finally got it, and we'll hopefully get it installed today. I just find this whole thing to be absurd....anything THIS difficult to get, should be provided by Lawson. And, since we are working fine on the old version, it makes one wonder if the patch is even needed.
Now I'm wondering....has anyone else even upgraded the 1.3.1 version of Java? <_<
schroncd - March 16, 2007 07:59 PM (GMT)
1.4 is required (depending on your ESP release) for the latest AMT. If you're still on 1.3.1 then you should probably look at doing moving to the latest ESP anyway.
And to be honest, the Java upgrade is basically a no-brainer (at least on Unix systems - sorry, I don't do Windows...)
Cindy - March 16, 2007 08:16 PM (GMT)
Hmmm....Lawson did not indicate that version when I opened the LIS with them. In fact, they said that they could not offer any support for JAVA since it was a 3rd party product. And I suppose it may be a "no brainer" if that sort of thing is normally part of your job....but it is not part of mine, and our network guys keep asking ME for directives on what to do. This has been an unbelievable effort to accomodate the DST change, and the fact that it *should" be a simple thing, REALLY does not make me feel any better! Thanks. Thanks a lot.
schroncd - March 16, 2007 08:25 PM (GMT)
I understand - I really do. I recently had to do something on a Windows machine that is a "no-brainer" for me on Unix - and I almost NEVER got it done - wouldn't have without some help from some great Windows guys who got a real laugh out of having to help me out..
What ENV level are you guys running? I'll try to get you the specs on what you SHOULD have - and now that you've done one java install maybe the next will be a lot simpler..
Cindy - March 16, 2007 09:52 PM (GMT)
We are on 8.0.3, and before we lost our "lawson brains" due to loss of staff (hmmm...think I'll call them the "X-team"!!) everything was pretty much under control. Now somedays I feel like I am hanging by my fingernails. :lala:
We do have a couple of contacts that we can call to help us out of the ravine when we run off the road though...thank goodness. Right now I have track marks all over the place! :P

It's that time again... 10/28 would have been the date for Fall DST, but don't forget that it's been moved out 1 week to 11/4/07. Hopefully everything needed for the fall was included in the spring DST changes... I know Kronos will be one that I'll be testing at 2am both mornings...
