Well, we're one of the unfortunate few who run our Lawson apps on HP Integrity (Itanium) servers -only because we're an HP shop and HP decided to sunset the PA-RISC at the time we purchased our current servers. HP has no plans to revive the PA-RISC in the future to my knowledge. Lawson was still supporting Itanium on the 8.0.3.5 platform at the time of purchase, thus we went thru w/ the implementation. Then came the release of LSF9, to which Lawson finally & officially announced no support for Itanium in the LSF9 release notes in Oct 06. Support has always been a gray area up until that annoucement as it became apparent to me that GSC has very few Itanium boxes to troubleshoot on. As a double-whammy, Lawson also announced recently that the 8.0.3 environment is to be decomissioned next Spring. To make matters worse, we're stuck on an 8.0.3.5 environment because apparently, Lawson can't get 8.0.3.6 to work on Itanium & thus hasn't certified it. Last time I checked, you had to be on 8.0.3.6 before you could upgrade to LSF9.
Outside of the support headaches (migranes, actually) we've had to go thru w/ Lawson, that I have no complaints about our Itanium systems. They're blazing fast.
IMHO, a leading reason why Lawson has officially dropped support for Itanium w/ LSF9 is due to the fact that IBM doesn't have a Websphere release for Itanium on v6.0 (the only certified version to work w/ LSF9). Ironically, we moved from an RS/6000 / AIX to these Itanium / HP-UX systems. I know that Websphere is available for Itanium from 6.0.1 to it's current 6.1 release. So my hope is that Lawson will make any subsequent 9.x.x releases work with the newer versions of Websphere & thus resurrect support for the Itanium. With HP's current roadmap of replacing PA-RISC w/ Itanium, I'm hoping that Lawson will change their stance on Itanium & not alienate their HP customer base who will eventually have to replace their PA-RISC systems.
Are any of you going thru the same & if so, what are your plans for hardware upgrades since we're all faced w/ moving off of the 8.0.3 environment by next year. Also, have you heard anything about subsequent releases of LSF being compatible w/ Websphere 6.0.1 & higher?
I think I have newfound empathy for you iSeries guys.
